WLM Policy Default
Overview
This document defines the default Workload Manager (WLM) policy configuration for the Standard z/OS Image. The WSCDEF policy serves as the baseline starter policy and provides a comprehensive framework for workload management across all major subsystem types.

Resource Management Strategy
Resource Groups
1. RGCAPPED - Severe Resource Limitation
Purpose: Control quiesced nonswappable workloads that need to be severely restricted
Configuration:
- Type: CPU Service Units
- Capacity Minimum: 0
- Capacity Maximum: 1
- Include Specialty Processors: Yes
Use Cases:
- Problematic workloads requiring containment
- Testing resource limitation scenarios
- Temporary workload restriction during incidents
2. RGCPCAP - General Purpose CPU Capping
Purpose: Cap General Purpose CPU consumption without affecting specialty engines
Configuration:
- Type: CPU Service Units
- Capacity Maximum: 5000
- Include Specialty Processors: No
Use Cases:
- Low priority batch workloads
- Background processing
- Non-critical batch jobs
3. RGZCX - z/OS Container Extension Tenant Management
Purpose: Enforce IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT) compliance for container workloads
Configuration:
- Type: Number of CPs × 100
- Capacity Maximum: 170 (equivalent to 1.7 CPs)
- Include Specialty Processors: Yes

1. Batch Workloads (BAT_WKL)

BATHI - High Priority Batch
Goal: Velocity-based with dual importance levels

Goal: Velocity-based with resource capping
- Importance: 5

- CPU Critical: No
- I/O Priority: Normal
- Honor Priority: Default

- Non-critical reports

Goal: Discretionary (lowest priority)
